About Us

The Crystal Lake Community/Business Association, or CLCBA, is a group of business owners and individuals who are interested in promoting Benzie County as a fun place to visit.

This is done through the organization and execution of programs and events designed to bring people to the area and enjoy the benefits of the community.

ARTICLE I.
  1. The name of this Association shall be the Crystal Lake Business Association DBA Crystal Lake Community Association.
ARTICLE II.
  1. The Association is organized for the purposes of promoting the cultural, economical and recreational interest of the Beulah/Benzonia area.
ARTICLE III.
  1. Any person or any firm, partnership, association, company or corporation in support of the objectives of the Crystal Lake Community Business Association shall be eligible for membership and may serve on the Board of Directors.
  2. A member serving on the board will have one vote.
  3. Membership and voting rights are effective upon ratification of the By-Laws.
ARTICLE IV.
  1. A finance committee shall establish a fair share annual membership fee. The membership fee shall be due in July.
  2. The finance Committee shall prepare and present an annual budget to the board of directors at the annual meeting which will be approved by vote of the board.
  3. An event chairman may spend up to $100 on their event without authorization.
  4. The annual meeting will be in September.
  5. Annual dinner for board members, spouses/significant others will be held in September with a total budget not to exceed $500.
  6. The Association fiscal year will be January to December
ARTICLE V.
  1. A board of directors will consist of active members within the association.
  2. The board of directors will consist of a membership of a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 18 individuals.
  3. The board of directors will choose an executive committee from within the board by nomination and majority vote. The executive committee will consist of chairman of the board, vice-chairman, secretary, and treasurer. President and Vice President will serve an annual term.
  4. Executive committee members must reside in Benzie County or own a business in the Beulah/Benzonia area.
  5. A board member may remain on the board for as long as they are willing to serve and remain an active part of the association.
  6. An active board member must attend eight of the twelve scheduled monthly meetings. They may ask for a leave of absence if circumstances arise to maintain integrity of quorum, if criteria is not met the board member will be asked to resign.
  7. An effort shall be made to keep a balance of the board members, that will represent the community in its decisions and projects.
  8. All meetings will be open to the Association membership.
  9. An opening on the board will be filled by vote of the membership, nominations by the board of directors.
  10. Any board member acting in a manner unbecoming to the association as deemed by the board of directors, will be asked to resign.
ARTICLE VI.
  1. The Crystal Lake Community/Business Association does hereby agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless its board members, directors and officers for any acts, errors and omissions which occur during the ordinary course of fulfilling such board members' responsibilities so long as such board member is not grossly negligent.
